I first connected with Juan Lopez via Twitter, and his blog has become one of my favorites to read. Juan blogs at Running la Carrera, and his stories are like a personal invitation to run alongside him in his journey of faith. When Juan asked me to participate in a series on grace, I couldn’t say no. I hope you’ll check out his blog, some of the posts in the series on grace, and check out some of Juan’s other work. I particularly loved “Tortillas and Theology.”
In my post about grace, I share about a moment when I realized how difficult grace really is for me. Here’s an excerpt from my piece:
Five years ago I was frustrated, angry, bitter, and worn out. And I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me. On paper, I had no reason to feel any of those things. I had two beautiful children, a loving husband, and a meaningful job. I had a roof over my head, and plenty of food to eat. But, I was so weary and tired. After wrestling with these feelings for quite some time, I picked up the phone and called a counselor.
I sat on a chair with rainbow-colored vertical stripes in the counselor’s office, and poured out my frustrations and anger. She listened patiently, nodded, smiled in solidarity, and invited me to lay it all out without fear of judgment. She didn’t say much, but what she did say has stuck with me ever since.
